South Carolina names Bauman new head coach


August 7, 2011 – South Carolina has reached out to the director of hockey at the Plex Indoor Sports facility in Irmo, SC (their home ice rink) and announces Brian Bauman as the new head coach of Gamecocks ice hockey. Coach Bauman succeeds Mark Cairns, who left to attend medical school at the University of South Carolina.

Coach Bauman worked closely with the ACHA D3 south region to bring the most recent south region playoffs to the Irmo Plex Indoor Sports facility and ran a superb tournament.

“I met Brian during the south regional and immediately liked him while witnessing his hard work behind the scene to run a flawless tournament,” said SECHC Commissioner Kenny Day.

“Sean Weaver and I were very impressed with Brian’s knowledge and love of the game and his expertise at ensuring we had excellent ice for every game. South Carolina has made a wise choice in reaching out to Brian and I welcome him to the SECHC and to the entire ACHA family.  We are excited to have him on board.”

Bauman was born and raised in Matawan, NJ.  Where he attended and played hockey at Christian Brothers Academy High School.

His playing career also includes stints with the Midget AAA Belle Tire,  Jr A (NAHL) Springfield Blues,  and SUNY-Brockport NCAA DIII (SUNYAC Conference).
