Sosa, Quenneville named Player and Coach of the Year

February 26, 2011 – The SECHC announced the regular season awards this afternoon. Commisioner Sarge Day presented plaques to Daniel Sosa and Mike Quenneville. Day also awarded the All SECHC 1st, 2nd, and 3rd teams with medals.

Florida’s Daniel Sosa was named Conference Player of the Year after a 26 goal, 20 assist campaign this season. Sosa’s efforts helped lead Florida back to a top 10 ranking and the ACHA D3 South Regional. Sosa was also awarded as a member of the All-SECHC 1st team.

Alabama coach Mike Quenneville was named the John Hoos Coach of the Year Award reciepient after leading Alabama to the No. 3 ranking in the south. Quenneville is finishing up his first season as Alabama’s head coach after taking over for Jeff Cheeseman. Alabama came into the SECHC Tournament with a 19-9-1 record overall and 8-2-0 record in conference play.

The award was named after Georgia coach John Hoos, the founder of the South Eastern Collegiate Hockey Conference. He is pictured with Quenneville.
