Message from the New SECHC Commissioner

First of all I want to say “Thank you” all for welcoming me as your new commissioner for the SECHC. Like I mentioned in our meeting, I am a total supporter of the ACHA and what it has to offer to high school aged hockey players. The goal is to get as many high school aged players, not only in the south, to start thinking about their future as it relates to hockey but more importantly their education. We have to push the message across to these high school students, that the schools of the SECHC can give you what you are looking for in terms of competitive hockey as well as a first class education. This is why pairing SECHC playoff weekend with the U18 showcase is so important, as it starts the ball rolling in these young players mind on where they can go to continue to play hockey after they graduate.

It was such a wonderful weekend of college hockey and watching the U18. I was excited to be part of it. There is some very good talent that is coming up that we need to tap into to and educate about the SECHC ,our schools and the educational programs they offer to help make our conference even more competitive. I’m excited on how we can make the experience a more enjoyable one for everyone involved.

Thank you to Justin Bradford and Penalty Box Radio. The experience you and your staff were able to provide to our players and fans was amazing and the SECHC is excited to have you on board with us as we continue to build the brand of college hockey in the south. I know you are just as excited, and the future looks very promising.

To Danny Butler and the staff of the Ford Ice Center, thank you so much for your professionalism and hospitality. The SECHC is excited to have this partnership with the Ford Ice Center for the next few years and we are looking forward to coming up with ideas together on how to make this weekend’s event bigger and better.

To the officials, thank you for your personal time and the professional service that you provided on the ice. Things can get interesting when you pair players from rival schools competing against each other, and you guys did a great job keeping everyone emotions in tact. The SECHC looks forward to working with you in the future.

Next, Congratulations to the University of Georgia Ice Dawgs for winning the 2015-16 SECHC Championship. Your program really showed how to overcome adversity and learning that by sticking together as a team, you can achieve more. Real proud of you young men. What you guys had to endure last year was not easy and the obstacles it presented, but the team stuck together and got support they needed and the work really showed on the ice. Real excited for the future of UGA hockey…Again Congratulations.

To the teams that will qualify for the regionals…Good Luck in the tournament and make the SECHC PROUD!!!!

To Durrigan and Angelo, I look forward to your support and feedback as we continuously move the SECHC in the right direction.

Finally, to Sarge….we go back a long time and it is a privilege to follow in your footsteps. You have started something really good in the SECHC and the proof is in the pudding. You were always about the players I look forward to building onto your success. Enjoy the time off, for I know we will see you in a rink sometime soon.

Thank you all and lets think about how to make the 2016-17 the best for the SECHC.
