The University of Alabama’s hockey team swept the Tennessee Volunteers in both of their games over the weekend.
The Frozen Tide offense dominated the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday 11-1.
Senior Mark Wysock earned a natural hat trick in the game and recorded an assist. Two of the three goals he scored were unassisted short-handed goals.
Defenseman Tanner Himmelman scored two goals and recorded an assist in the game.
Two goalkeepers from each team received some playing time. Sean Vinson saved all 12 shots he faced, while Adam Weinrich played in his first game with the Frozen Tide facing 10 shots and allowed one goal.
The Tennessee Ice Vols goalkeeper Maria Mieling replaced Franklin Calderwood in the third period. Calderwood allowed eight goals on 38 shots. Mieling allowed three goals on 15 shots.
Tennessee’s Peter Williams put the team on the board with a power-play goal from Scott Andrews on Weinrich.
Sophomore goalkeeper Sean Vinson recorded his second career shutout Friday night stopping all 22 shots in a 7-0 win over the Ice Vols.
Reed Finch opened the scoring for the game in the first period with an assist from Brandon Butler.
The Frozen Tide scored four goals in the second period from Matt Hewson, Zach Dailey, Alex Dubrinsky and Kenny Janssen.
Tennessee’s Calderwood allowed six goals on 48 shots in the game.
Matt Hewson, Zach Dailey and Alex Dubrinsky all earned two goals over the weekend for the Frozen Tide.
The Frozen Tide will host the South Eastern Collegiate Hockey Conference Showcase on Jan. 27-29 at the Pelham Civic Complex.
