ATLANTA, Ga. – The University of Alabama Frozen Tide began their 2011-12 season by defeating the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 7-2 for their first win ever against the team on Friday.
Alabama (1-0-0) dominated the pace of the game, especially in the second and third periods, as they out shot Georgia Tech (0-1-0) 64-20 in the win.
The Frozen Tide’s first goal of the season was scored by Zach Dailey at 9:30 in the first period. Georgia Tech’s Mitchell Carr tied the game 1-1, leaving the game knotted at one at end of the first period.
In the second period, Alabama defenseman Matt Mayes put the Frozen Tide ahead 2-1. Georgia Tech answered when Matthew Zaske scored a power-play goal tying the game at two.
The Frozen Tide answered and never looked back. David Hewson would strike back on the power-play. Clay Link added a goal late in the second to put the Tide up by two.
The third period brought three more goals from Alabama. Kenny Janssen, Adam Setas and Sean Keeler scored, bringing the final score to 7-2.
Mayes, Link and Janssen scored their first goals as members of the Frozen Tide.
Alabama will travel across town to take on Kennesaw State (1-0-0) tonight at 10 p.m. The Owls defeated Georgia last night, 6-2.
