Commissioner’s Corner: Third ACHA DIII Rankings Released

The third rankings for the ACHA Division III have been released with very little change from the second rankings.

Arkansas retains their well-deserved No. 1 position in the Pacific Region. This is an outstanding accomplishment and all Razor Blade players, coaches, parents and fans should be proud!

South Carolina, Florida, Alabama and Ole Miss are in solid position to qualify for the South Regionals Feb. 21-22, 2014, in Irmo, S.C., the Gamecock’s home ice.

If the season ended today, Arkansas would win the automatic bid to Nationals and bypass the Pacific Regionals. In South Regional’s play, Day-1 matchups would be: South Carolina vs. UNC-Charlotte, Florida vs. Miami, Alabama vs. Christopher Newport Univ. and Ole Miss vs. Liberty. However, there is a lot of hockey to be played and our teams need to remain focused as they improve on their records and retain their steady grip on Regional’s playoff positions.

Please remember to get the word out about the upcoming SECHC Playoffs to be held in Pelham, AL Feb. 7-9, 2014. Our playoffs are being held on the same weekend that counts for the Final Rankings vote! The games will have a huge impact on the final rankings, and I am confident we will have strong representation not only at Regionals, but at Nationals also. To advance to Nationals, a team participating at Regionals must win both of their games.  Only two of the eight teams at Regionals will advance to the ACHA DIII Nationals March 11-15, 2014, in Coral Springs, Fla. Will your team advance?

Best wishes to all as we head to the final weekend of the regular season and remember…You Can’t Step Out of Bounds in Hockey!
