Commissioner’s Corner: SECHC Playoffs & annual meeting

Congratulations to the Arkansas Razorbacks in winning the 2012-13 SECHC Army Strong Championship Cup during our recent playoffs. Arkansas made it to the championship game and defeated the 2011-12 champions Alabama Frozen Tide 8-0. Arkansas came to Huntsville, AL as our only 2-time champion and depart Huntsville as our only 3-time champion. Congratulations to the Alabama Frozen Tide and Ole Miss Rebels as they will represent the south region and the SECHC during the ACHA D III nationals next week in Springfield, MO. Alabama and Ole Miss were the two teams to win both of their games and to advance to nationals during the ACHA south regionals held at the home rink of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks in Irmo, SC. Roll Tide and Hotty Toddy!!

During our annual meeting conducted in Huntsville, we discussed our options regarding a return to Huntsville for our 2014 playoffs, or to return to Pelham, AL after receiving a strong bid offer from Mayor Gary Waters of Pelham. Our voting members voted to return to Pelham, AL for our SECHC playoffs in 2014 and 2015 with an option for 2016; we are excited at returning to the location of our very first SECHC playoffs and interacting with the wonderful Alabama Frozen Tide game-day staff and the City of Pelham.

We also voted to move our playoffs to the final weekend that counts for the ACHA rankings as opposed to 1-week after the South regionals. Our members strongly believe that by moving our playoffs up 3-weeks to the final weekend for the final rankings, our SECHC playoffs will have a much greater impact on the final rankings. I concur and look forward to our 2014 Playoffs whichwill be held 7-9 February 2014 in beautiful Pelham, AL.

Again, sincere congratulations to the Arkansas “Razor Blades” and best wishes to Alabama & Ole Miss as they travel to Springfield, MO 12-16 March 2013 to participate in the ACHA D3 nationals. You can follow all the action of the national’s tournament at:

I look forward to the 2013-14 season and can only hope that it will be as exciting as the 2012-13 season. Best wishes to all and remember…
