The ACHA D3 South Regional Rankings were recently released and the University of Alabama Frozen Tide have taken over the all important # 2 position. The SECHC has 4 teams in the South Region’s Top 10 with South Carolina ranked # 5, Vanderbilt ranked # 9 and Ole Miss ranked # 10. The next rankings will be posted January 23rd, 2015 and the Final Rankings will be posted February 13th, 2015. If the current rankings hold, Alabama and Arkansas will be awarded a Bye from the Regional’s Playoffs and awarded an auto-bid to the D3 Nationals…hosted by the City of Pelham and The Frozen Tide! Also, USC, Vandy and Ole Miss would participate at the D3 South Regional’s. The SECHC is in excellent position to have multiple teams advancing to postseason play which is a testament to the hard work of all of our players, coaches, alumni, volunteers and fans!
Arkansas, playing as the sole SECHC team in the Pacific Region received 4 of 8 first place votes from the Pacific’s rankings committee members and are a close second to # 1 ranked Colorado State. Ironically, Arkansas was scheduled to play two games against CSU, but those games were unexpectly cancelled by CSU. During the 2nd rankings period, Arkansas picked up 2 wins over Missouri State, ranked # 10 in the Pacific, a win over Santa Rosa College, ranked # 11, a win over Northern Colorado, ranked # 4, a win over # 14 Wyoming and after suffering a tough 5-4 OT loss to # 6 Nebraska, the Ice Hogs came back strong the next night in a dominating 9-1 victory over the Cornhuskers. The Pacific Regions Top 10 teams are :
- Colorado State, 2. Arkansas, 3. Metro State, 4. Northern Colorado, 5. Northern Arizona, 6. Nebraska, 7. Iowa State, 8. Marquette, 9. Robert Morris Univ., 10. Missouri State
After the first rankings were posted on November 7th, Alabama went 5-2-1 with impressive wins over Central Florida, South Carolina and Arkansas. Alabama also defeated Arkansas in their 2nd game in a shootout that counts for the SECHC standings, but was recorded as a Tie for the ACHA rankings. South Carolina surprised everyone with 2 wins over Central Florida, a win over Clemson and an exciting 3-3 Tie vs. Ole Miss.
Vandy continued to impress the rankings committee with two wins over D2 teams, Princeton and Virginia, a win over Memphis and a 3-3 Tie vs. Georgia Tech.
