July 11, 2010 – The 2011 SECHC Tournament is scheduled to be played in Columbus, Ga. for the first time in its brief three year history. This year’s tournament is tentatively scheduled for February 25-27, 2011 at the Columbus Civic Center.
The 8,000+ capacity arena that currently hosts home games for the Columbus Cottonmouths of the Southern Professional Hockey League will bring the SECHC Tournament to a new level. A state-of-the-art jumbotron will provide intros for players as well as replays of goals.
Columbus, Ga. won the rights to the 2011 Tournament over Pelham, Ala. (who hosted the first two years of the tournament), Nashville, Tenn., Columbia, S.C., and Savannah, Ga.
The current structure for the tournament has not been finalized but the top four teams out of the east and west will be invited to the tournament. Auburn will not be eligible this season as they are an affiliate member of the conference in their first season of competition.
